About Takoi

Dinner. Drinks. Sometimes Thai

Located at 2520 Michigan Ave, Detroit, MI 48216, Takoi operates as a restaurant serving Detroit in Michigan. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 4–10 pm. It is closed on Monday, Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Takoi at (313) 855-2864; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, takoidetroit.com.

We’ve been here many times. Our go to when we have time to go downtown. It’s one of my favorite Thai places to date. The service is quick, the atmosphere is lively and the food is excellent. Good vegan options. The menu is seasonal and changes so you can try something new when you come. However, there are some signature staples like the coconut pancakes that are addictive. Worth the trip Highly recommended.

Takoi is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Detroit. I have come here multiple times and it has never disappointed me. Amazing drinks, service and food for all tastes, they have spicy options but also options for people who don’t like a lot of spice. The food is ment to be shared, so order lots of things to try!! Takoi also has a rotating menu, they change it often which brings variety to what they serve to their customers. If you want to dine in the dining room, I highly recommend making a reservation, but if you have a small party (1 or 2 people) they offer walk-ins at the bar area.

Def a hipster joint, but not in a bad way. I liked the atmosphere. The staff were great. Takoi reminds me of Flowers of Vietnam in that I didn't love the food. And I'm a foodie! The menu was odd. Who can choose from this wild stuff? I liked one dish, a cabbage curry dish. The strip steak with fruit was terrible. Whichever chef thought this one up, nah, take it off. Sorry! πŸ˜‚ They saw we didn't eat it and took it off our bill, which was unexpected, and I am grateful for that. I had a cocktail, too, and it was very good.

**Takoi, Detroit β€” A Southeast Asian gem worth the visit** ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) Came here for the first time and left genuinely impressed. The menu leans into bold Southeast Asian flavors and for the most part, it delivers. Started with the **Khao Soi** β€” a rich, coconut milk-based noodle dish that came with a chicken drumstick. Deeply savory, layered with flavor, and incredibly satisfying. Exactly what you want from a Khao Soi. No complaints there. The **Gai Yaang** (grilled half chicken) was solid β€” well cooked, good flavor β€” but honestly felt a bit overpriced for what it is. A grilled half chicken shouldn't carry that kind of price tag. Good, but not remarkable enough to justify the cost. The real standout of the night was the **Tod Mun Kung**. The pork katsu and the sauce were absolutely on point β€” every single bite was a pleasure. That dish alone makes the trip worth it. If you go, do not skip it. Overall, Takoi has serious cooking chops and the atmosphere adds to the experience. A couple of the price points felt a little steep, but the highs here are genuinely high. Would go back for the Tod Mun Kung without hesitation.

An absolutely unforgettable tasting menu experience! Every single course was exceptional, though the grilled pork collar was my personal favorite. The dessert, a vanilla meringue, lotus cookie, and grape sorbet was the perfect light finish. We also had the pla meuk phat Kai kem,a deliciously spicy squid stir-fry. I'm still thinking about it the day after eating. Strongly recommend trying if you like spicy foods! The beverage pairings were just as thoughtfully curated. Each drink complemented its course wonderfully. Flawless food, flawless pairings. Will return!
